The Good, the Bad and the Ugly

Despite April having been the third worst on record and May looking just as underwhelming thus far, most things in the garden are growing slowing but steadily.

The Good:

Remember when these potatoes were just starting to come up from the soil?  I’ll be hilling these this week.

Both kales, the Butter Crunch lettuce and the spinach are all very happy.

The Bad:

I really have only myself to blame for “Bad Dog Sam”.  He dropped a ball right on top of the vegetables so of course I muttered something regrettable under my breath and chucked the ball to the other side of the yard.  Well, didn’t I just stumble upon the most fun game ever?!  Guess what he does every time I turn my attention to the garden now? My impatience has reaped its apt reward.

The beans have yet to make an appearance-the first time I’ve had anything but raging success with this variety.  Part of my problem has certainly been the birds; they’ve been pulling the seeds up and pecking out the insides-a few have been found far from where they were planted.  Also, it’s been rainy and cool, so it’s likely they’ve stagnated or even rottted.  I can always try to replant again…

The Ugly:

Swiss chard-could be Cladosporium, Ramularia or just plain water/cold damage.

But let’s end things off on a good note…

So I’d love to hear from you-what have you planted?  Any early successes you’d like to share?  I would love to see some pictures…
